Did you know Venus Flytraps are the ultimate Carolina snobs, refusing to sprout anywhere but a tiny slice of North and South Carolina—  within 75 miles of Wilmington, North Carolina to be exact?  We totally get it though, we think Wilmington is pretty great too!  We spotted the toothy star that inspired this design while wandering through Carolina Beach State Park, where one particularly sassy flytrap was snapping at bugs like it was auditioning for a remake of "Jaws." Move over, sharks—there’s a new chomper in town!

When picking out flytraps for your garden, go for ones grown in a lab (fancy tissue culture stuff), not snatched from the wild. Poaching’s not cool - actually it's so uncool in North Carolina it's a felony.
